Tonight's sky, exactly as it is

Look up in Life Legacies: Earth and you see the real sky for that place and moment, down to the faintest star you could see with your own eyes.

The sky in the game is not painted on. The Sun, the Moon and the stars are worked out for the exact date, time and place you choose. The Moon shows its true phase. The Sun rises and sets where it really would. And every star you can see on a perfectly dark night is there, nearly 9,000 of them, each with its real brightness and color.

A dark night sky full of stars, with Orion high in the south.
Orion high in the south over East Tennessee, 4 a.m. on an October night. In-development capture, October 2026.

One of our first checks was a simple one. Stand in East Tennessee at four in the morning on an October night and look south: Orion is high in the sky, with Sirius below and to the left, just where you would find them in your own backyard. Turn around and the North Star sits about 36 degrees above the horizon, the same as the latitude, as it should.

Because the Earth in the game has no people, there is no light pollution anywhere on the planet. Every night is as dark as the darkest place you have ever been. Speed up time and you can watch the stars wheel overhead, the Moon go through its phases, and the seasons turn.
